The new Razer Blade 15 is a great gaming laptop with a sleek design, powerful hardware, and a great display. The 11th Gen i7 CPU and RTX 3070 Ti offer great gaming performance, while the QHD 165Hz screen is perfect for competitive gaming.
RAZER BLADE 15 SPECIFICATIONS
Intel Core i7 12800H
GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8GB
16 GB DDR5
1 TB NVMe SSD
The CPU of the Razer Blade 15 is the Intel Core i7-12800H. This is a powerful CPU that offers great gaming performance, while it can be a very efficient CPU when needed, offering a good battery life.
The i7-12800H is a high end processor, built for laptops that require a lot of power. It offers 6 performance cores, which can handle demanding tasks such as gaming and video editing.
It also offers 8 efficient cores. These efficiency cores are used when you are just browsing the web or working on documents.
The CPU has a base clock speed of 2.4 GHz, and can turbo boost up to 4.8 GHz when needed. The I7-12800H also features Hyper Threading, which allows the Razer Blade 15 to handle 20 threads at once.
The CPU was upgraded from the last year's model, which used the Intel Core i7-11800H. The I7-12800H is a significant upgrade, both in terms of raw power and efficiency.
This laptop comes with the mobile version of the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, which is a good graphics card.
The RTX 3070 Ti is based on the GA104 GPU and it's a direct successor to the old RTX 2070 Max-Q.
It comes with 16GB of DDR5 RAM, which is the sweet spot for most users. This amount of RAM will be enough for most games and applications.
However, if it is not enough, you can upgrade the RAM up to 64 GBs.
Out of the box, we get a 1TB SSD. This is enough storage for most users, as you can store a lot of games and other files on the SSD.
You can also upgrade to have 2TB of storage if you need more space and you can add an additional M.2 SSD to the laptop to even further expand the storage.
The battery life is good, but not the best!
It has improved a bit compared to last year's models, but there are laptops on the market that outdout it, like the ASUS TUF A15.
In our tests, which involved internet browsing, watching movies, opening and closing browser tabs and using wifi, the Razer Blade 15 lasted for about 5 hours and 30 minutes.
Given this is a gamer laptop, we didn't expect much more in terms of battery life. If you are planning to use this laptop for gaming, you will need to keep the charger handy.
When it comes to gaming, you should be able to run most games at high to ultra settings with this card in 1440 Resolution. Some games might require you to lower the settings a bit, but overall it's a good card.
In our tests, most games ran well on high settings. The games we tested were:
- Witcher 3
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Metro Exodus
- Far Cry New Dawn
All of the listed games stayed between the 63.5 - 90 FPS range with max settings, which is good.
The RTX 3070 Ti is also a great card for content creators. It can handle 4K video editing and rendering without any issues.
Our version of the Razer Blade 15 came with a QHD 165Hz screen. The resolution of the screen is 2560 x 1440.
This version offers support for 100% of the DCI-P3 color space.
In our experience, the screen was color accurate out of the box, with good brightness and contrast.
With that said, this is not the brightest laptop display on the market, topping out at just shy of 250 nits. Razer has included their Chroma RGB backlighting system on the keyboard, which is a nice addition.
If you are gaming a lot outdoors or in a room with direct sunlight hitting your screen, you might have a hard time seeing what is happening on the screen.
The Blade 15 has plenty of ports for all of your needs. There are two Thunderbolt 4 USB Type-C ports on the laptop, which can be used for charging, hooking up an external GPU, or connecting to an external display.
There are three Regular USB Type-3 .2 ports, one on each side of the laptop. You also get an HDMI 2.1 port, a UHS-III SD card reader (SD card slot), and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Killer Wireless Wi-Fi 6E AX1690 modem inside supports speeds up to 2.4Gbps on the 5GHz band.
Webcam and Audio
We know that laptop manufacturers don't usually put too much emphasis on webcams. One, because it is not a feature that many gamers will use and second because it makes the bezel look bigger.
However, the Blade 15 has an 1080P webcam built in it. Last year, because there were a lot of people working from home, Razer has made the choice to improve their webcam. This is a great addition for those who use their laptop for more than just gaming as it is a long-overdue feature.
The laptop is also capable of Windows Hello Facial Recognition, which is a simple way of logging in and it works well with the 1080P webcam
The Audio quality is excellent. The audio is loud and clear even, and there are no problems with it even at maximum volume. Razer has also included the THX Spatial Audio software, which is a great addition. This allows you to control the sound in your environment and gives you a better gaming experience.
Keyboard and Trackpad
The keyboard on the is pretty good for gaming. The keyboard has Razer Per-Key Chroma RGB backlighting, which is a nice touch.
The key feedback is good, and the keys are easy to press.
Razer has increased the size of the keys and decreased the gap between them.
The trackpad is large and accurate, but as a gamer you are not going to be using it much.
Design and Build
The Razer Blade 15's aluminum chassis is just as solid and rigid as ever. The unibody of the laptop is made out of aluminum, and it's very difficult to flex or bend the Razer Blade 15 at all.
The Razer Blade 15 2022 model is also one of the more compact gaming laptops out there, measuring in at 0.62-inches thin and 4.4 pounds.
Design wise, Razer hasn't changed much with the Razer Blade 15. It still has that same Razer Blade look, with its black aluminum chassis and green Razer logo.
The only real change Razer has made to the design is moving the power button from the side to above the keyboard, in the upper right-hand corner.
This can get some time to get used to.
The Razer Blade 15 is fully upgradeable. You can upgrade the RAM (there are two slots inside) and you can swap out the installed M.2 SSD, plus add an additional one if needed.
Taking apart the laptop is pretty easy, you only have to unscrew the bottom of the laptop and pry it open. If you haven't done it before though, you should hire someone to do it for you.
The Razer Blade 15 Advanced model is a great gamer laptop with high end components. It has all the features that a gamer would want, plus some extra features that are nice to have.
It is expensive, but you are getting a lot of machine for your money. Razer has packed a lot of power into this little laptop, and it shows.
